Trento, Italy, March 3, 2010. In the first game of the Playoffs 6 competition favorite TRENTINO Volley outclassed Asseco Resovia RZESZOW in straight sets 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-17) and needs only one set in return match (which is scheduled in Rzeszow this Tuesday 9th March at 18.00) in order to secure their spot in Final Four in Lodz.
Only first set was very tough as Asseco Resovia seemed to start the game with a very positive attitude and played bravely. Unfortunately for the guests in the end of this section they didn’t capitalize their opportunities (they were leading 22-21 and had a ball for 23-21 but were stopped by Trentino’s block). It was the decisive moment of the game as Trentino won the first set and found their normal rhythm whereas Asseco Resovia players seemed to lose their confidence and faith.
The real hero of the game was Osmany Juantorena who scored 21 points (he had 63 % efficiency in attack, 90 % of positive reception, he also scored 3 points in block and one in service!). The best scorer of Asseco Resovia team was Mikko Oivanen (11 points).

- It is too early to congratulate us the promotion to the Final Four as we have still return game in Rzeszow and we have to stay focused on that game. Of course now we are in a very good situation us we needs only one set in Poland and we will do everything in order to secure this qualification. As for the game in Trento, Asseco Resovia proved in the first set that they are strong and can play very well. Later on they didn’t play as good as at the beginning but I don’t know why - said Matey Kaziyski, the captain of Trentino Volley.
- We had a big chance to win the first set but we didn’t take benefit of it. I can say it many times and we all know that our own mistakes against such a strong team as Trentino cost us much more than in the other games. The difference between us and Trentino was that in case of their mistakes they were able to score the points in the other elements whereas we weren’t. – stressed Krzysztof Gierczynski, captain of Asseco Resovia. I’m sure that this match would have been much different if we had won the first set. In the second and third section we were trying to do something but they found their rhythm and were too strong for us.
- It is an important victory but we have to stay down on earth, because the match is not yet finished. Now we have more possibilities and we have time to rest a bit and to prepare well until the next match, using this ball, that is causing us some problems. After tough and difficult first set we have imposed our rhythm. Resovia is a very good team with 2-3 players on a very high level. We expected a lot from this team. They played very well in the first set and after that they were going down but we were really prepared for them – said Radostin Stoytchev, head coach of Trentino Volley.
- We play well only in the first set. We tried to apply what we had prepared but then we made too much mistakes and it seemed that we were afraid of playing against Trentino, that showed a great performance. I don’t know why my players completely lost the confidence and level of play after the first set. This is the question for them. I think we had a great opportunity to win 1 or 2 sets against Trentino. Of course they are very strong team but this time they didn’t play something very great whereas we committed too many easy mistakes. I hope we will have another chance at home but it will be very hard – ended Ljubo Travica, the head coach of Asseco Resovia Rzeszow.
